Первый теплоход типа «Заря», который одновременно был и первым выпущенным судном этого типа, поступил в Калинин в октябре 1966 г. Он был предназначен для пригородной линии Калинин – Ржев начиная с будущего года, а пока проходил обкатку, делая пробные рейсы до Избрижья.
