Поясните, кто знает, почему землесосам присваивалось название "Портовый"? Предположу, что это заимствовано из морской сферы.

я думаю "Портовыми" называли земснаряды принадлежащие пароходству, т.е. относились к порту для работы на добыче песка. Земснаряды путейцев называли прилагательным от названия реки.
