Судно строилось по заказу португальского судовладельца Companha Bahiana de Navegacao, но по окончании постройки было реквизированно итальянским правительством для работы в Мессинском проливе. 20 июля 1943 года во время воздушной бомбардировки судно затонуло в порту Мессина в результате взрыва на стоящем рядом с грузом боеприпасов немецком пароходе Patria. Позже было поднято, восстановлено и с 1953 года используется как туристическое судно для мини-круизов.
