6 июня 1971 г. в Средиземном море 60 милях к юго-востоку от Картахены произошло столкновение советского танкера "Генерал Бочаров" и эсминца "Сюркуф". Погибло 9 французских моряков и один был сильно обожжено (позже он умер от ран). «Сюркуфа» взял на буксир ЭМ «Тартю», но корабль разломился — носовая часть затонула, а кормовую привели в базу и в 1972 году использовали в качестве мишени для испытаний ПКР «Экзосет».
