20 сентября 1939 гидрографическое судно Гидрографического управления Главного управления Севморпути «Зюйд» с полного хода выскочил на прибрежную отмель западнее острова Белый в Карском море. Десять суток его безрезультатно пытались стащить, но, безуспешно. Судно затонуло.
