25 мая 1987 года достиг Северного полюса, обеспечив возвращение научной полярной экспедиции СП-27 и начало работы научной полярной экспедиции СП-29.
Выведен из эксплуатации в 1993 году, энергетическая установка заглушена.
В конце 2011 года объявлено о предстоящей утилизации судна не позднее 2020 года.
