Назван в честь дальневосточного капитана – Николая Александровича Егорова (1906 — 1979). Был капитан-управляющим плавзавода «Коряк», который входил в состав треста крабоконсервных заводов. В первом же промысловом рейсе вывел свой плавзавод в передовики, а через два года вдвое увеличил выработку крабовых консервов. В 1936 году Егоров вошел в число лучших краболовов страны. Был награжден орденами Трудового Красного Знамени и «Знак Почета».

В 1991 году в связи с распадом СССР возникли сложности с поставкой судна заказчику и оно оставалось на заводе в Штральзунде. В конце 1992 года немецкая В/О "Schiffskommerz", при участии Росрыболовства и Внешэкономбанка, согласовали поставку траулера в кредит калининградским АООТ "Калининградрыбпром" и ТОО "Рыбком". Суда были оформлены на кипрскую компанию Kaliningradrybprom Ltd и заложены в банке. Судно пришло в Калининград в начале 1993 года и отработало на АООТ "Калининградрыбпром" и ТОО "Рыбком" более 2-х лет. Однако в середине 1995 года планы у владеющих ситуацией лиц в Москве изменились или возникли какие-то разногласия с калининградцами, и было решено воспользоваться правом залога на траулер и сменить его владельца. http://www.npacific.ru/np/library/publikacii/chernuy/38.htm
