Аппарат предназначен для выполнения научно-изыскательских, историко-археологических, аварийно-спасательных работ и экологического мониторинга Мирового океана. В его функциональные возможности входит изучение бентоса и ихтиофауны, съёмка производственных и научно-популярных фильмов.
