В 1907 году в канун Пасхи Нева уже несколько дней как вскрылась, но подошли льды с Ладоги. Щитовский пароходик «Архангельск», перевозивший пассажиров от Смольного на Малую Охту, столкнулся с такой льдиной. Судно перевернулось и затонуло. Погибло 39 человек. Якова Щитова приговорили к году тюрьмы и выплате семьям погибшим компенсации.
