В Клайпеде создан новый судоремонтный плавзавод — филиал Западного судоремонтного завода. Он состоит из гигантского дока и буксира “Судоремонтник“. Док, 220 метров шириной и высотой 20 метров, был построен в Швеции по заказу Советского Союза, и его установка явилась не только сложным транспортным и монтажным проектом, но и не менее сложной гидротехнической задачей – на дне залива требовалось вырыть углубление, а также изготовить специальные железобетонные якоря. Установку дока осуществляли специалисты морского и рыбного порта с помощью шести морских буксиров, а руководил всей операцией капитан рыбного порта Николай Стецюк.
