«Красное Сормово» в 1930-1932 гг. была выпущена серия мощных колесных буксирных пароходов. Они получили следующие названия: «Красный шахтер», «Индустриализация» и «Коллективизация». Эти суда имели клепаные корпуса размером 65,0 х 9,8 х 3,2 м, осадку —1,6 м, машины мощностью 1200 л.с. Пароходы работали на жидком топливе (мазуте) и имели весьма эффективную паросиловую установку с пароперегревом. На них впервые на речном флоте были установлены паровые буксирные лебедки. Эксплуатационные качества новых буксировщиков были значительно выше, чем у подобных по мощности судов дореволюционной постройки.
