Первоначальное название корпуса было "QUEEN OF THE AMERICAS", Зав. № 7671. Проект нового круизного лайнера родился у финляндских судостроителей Kværner-MaSa Yards для американского заказчика. Американский судостроительный проект на заводе Ingalls скоро был брощен и банкрот, и недостроенный корпус продан и передан немцам и там, конечно, профессионально достроен на заводе Lloyd Werft и лайнер, на конец, продан норвежско-американскому NCL.
