Буровая платформа «Арктическая» была заложена на стапелях судоверфи «Звездочки», город Северодвинск, в декабре 1995 года, по проекту, разработанному ОАО «ЦКБ «Коралл». К 1998 году были готовы только 7 из 21 модуля платформы. Из-за дефолта с 1998 по 2002 год строительство платформы было законсервирована.
В 2002 году руководство «Газпрома» приняло решение не только о продолжении строительства, но и о значительной модернизации проекта, которую доверили специалистам ОАО «ЦКБ «Коралл». Генеральным заказчиком платформы стало ООО «Газфлот» – дочернее предприятие «Газпрома». Строителем, как и прежде, было оставлено ОАО «ЦС «Звездочка». Решение об утверждении технического проекта подписали в декабре 2004 года, а в начале 2005 года, после 7-летнего перерыва, строительство возобновилось.
В декабре 2012 года была введена в эксплуатацию.
