Океанографическое исследовательское судно проекта 22011, является дальнейшим развитием проекта 22010. Судно получило название в честь бывшего на протяжении 15 лет (2005 — 2020) начальником ГУГИ Героя России вице-адмирала Алексея Витальевича Буриличева, скончавшегося 25.11.2020 от последствий коронавирусной инфекции.
