Теплоход переименован в честь Николая Степановича Ромащенко, бывшего руководителя "Волготанкера", возглавлявшего ведомство с 1939 по 1947 годы.
С 2006 по 2016 год находился на холодном отстое в Самаре на базе ЗАО "Нефтефлот".
