Траулер "Североморский Комсомолец", работавший в Баренцевом море, утром первого января 1979 года подошел в район мыса Чеврай для встречи с почтовым судном. После приема почты траулер столкнулся с каменистой отмелью и через пробоину вода начала быстро затапливать машинное отделение. Через несколько часов безуспешной борьбы с водой было принято решение эвакуировать экипаж и выбросить судно на берег. В 16.55 буксир "Смелый" вытолкнул "Североморский Комсомолец" на берег, но последовавший прилив затопил судно.
